Proof of Intent to Live

Hello again, everyone. This is my second question of the day. As my wife and I gear up to submit out paperwork, I imagine you'll be hearing more and more from me.

I am a Canadian-born citizen living in the US with my wife and our dauhghter. We are trying to get everything together to apply to come to Canada. My daughter has her Certificate of Citizenship by descent, and obviously I am a citizen, so the only thing we need to do is get my wife her PR card. We will be applying from here in the US (NY state).

In the document checklist, it states I, as a sponsor, must include proof of my intent to live in Canada. How am I supposed to do that if I'm in the US at the moment. I cannot really get a job offer before I know for sure my wife will be getting her PR. I can't rent an apartment for us just yet, obviously.

I'm just not sure what proof I can provide, aside from the fact that I'll have done all the paperwork and paid the fees to get my wife's PR card.

Has anyone out there been through this experience?

Thanks!

What I did was I got letters from family and friends in Canada stating that they know of our plans to go to Canada and they are happy for us and stating that we can live with them rent free and they will supply food, a car to use etc until we get on our feet. I also got letters from a friend and my mother-in-law here in Mexico(where we live) stating that they are aware of our intention and support our plan. I also wrote a letter to CIC saying why we want to leave here and you need to give them a plan on how you are going to get re-established. I told them which job sites I have been searching and included a copy of my resume. I have just recently sent my application so I can't say if that is enough but that's what I did. I told them in the letter that I couldn't commit to a job without my wife getting her visa as I would be staying here if she doesn't get it and that without a job it's almost impossible to rent a place in Canada.

Like suggested, you can get family members to write a letter if you will be living with them or stating that they're so happy you will be close by.
Job searches that you have looked into.

If you won't be living with family then you can show house or apartment rentals or sales that you have been looking into and the area you want to live in. If you are on a wait list for an apartment rental, show that.

Were those letters from family members notarized? Just curious.

I didn't have them notarized. I had the people writing the letters put their e-mails, phone numbers and passport numbers in the letter in case CIC wants to contact them and had them sign the letters also. I also wrote in my letter that both my wife and I have some savings which will help us as we get started and included copies of our most recent bank statements. This is to show them that we won't be a burden on the social welfare system.
