Hi all - we are applying from outside Canada and currently do not have a job offer - if we were to get an ITA and be able to apply, we would need to be able to show proof of funds of over $10 000 (which would be fine) - however I was reading somewhere you need to prove you've had these funds for at least 6 months - does anyone know if this is true?

Hello there,

It is not for six months but asking to show the statements with an average money in your account from last six months.

Hope this helps.

Good luck.

Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
The amount depends on the the number of dependents for the Principal Applicant. See here for actual values (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/funds.asp)

And about the availability of funda, this is what CIC says http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/perm/express/intake-complete.asp

Purpose

To confirm whether the applicant meets the low income cut-off (LICO), as assessed by amount of money they hold compared to the number of people in their family

Document requirements

The applicant should provide official letter(s) from financial institution(s) which list all current bank and investment accounts, as well as outstanding debts such as credit cards and loans.
The letter(s) must be printed on the letterhead of the financial institution and must include applicant’s name, the contact information of the financial institution (address, telephone number and e-mail address), the account numbers, dates of when each account was opened and the current balance of each account as well as the average balance in the past six months.
Other documents may also be requested, as necessary.

According to what i have read in several posts about this issue you just need to have proof that the money is not borrowed... They ask you for a six months balance so that they can see if there is an ´´irregular´´ increase in your account. If you have the money for less than six months you just need to have the proof that it is not borrowed... Again... this is something i know because of what i have read here and it makes sense...
