As some of you might have experienced, some applicants woke up in this new year of 2019 only to see their Express Entry profiles being rendered ineligible. It was indeed surprising as they were patiently waiting in the pool as eligible candidates. It was an even more frustrating experience for all of those who were in the pool for quite some time, gravitating around the average cut-off score (approx. 440-442), therefore realizing that by being eliminated from the pool because the system considered them "no longer eligible", actually lost their tie-breaking rule advantage!

Others who just had submitted their profiles kept receiving emails that their profiles are ineligible despite clearly satisfying all criteria. At that time, by eliminating all possibilities, the only acceptable hypothesis that remained was that the funds requirements were updated/increased in the system, but the official CIC website for funds page was yet to be updated and applicants in the pool given proper notice. Assumption was reinforced when applicants solved the problem simply by raising funds requirements well above the minimum

As expected, minimum funds were increased since January 1st, even if nobody was informed. Here they are below for 2019:

Number of
Family Members
Funds Required
(in Canadian dollars)
1
$12,669 +195CA$ compared to 2018
2 $15,772 +242CA$
3 $19,390 +298CA$
4 $23,542 +361CA$
5 $26,701 +410CA$
6 $30,114 +462CA$
7 $33,528 +515CA$
For each additional family member $3,414 +53CA$

Cheers, and good luck to all!

Thanks for bringing this to everyone’s attention. It’s always advised to manage a higher amount to avoid such situations.
