Hi Folks,

Do I need to show proof of funds for dependents who are not accompanying me to Canada. I plan to take my wife and two kids (but I also have two kids from a previous marriage - They will not accompany me).

My question is ; Do I need to show proof of funds for 4 or 6. I have read elsewhere that the answer is 4, but since the rules keep changing I need more opinions

Thanks in advance

if you have included your children on your application from the previous marriage, you need to show proof of fund for all of them. proof of fund is determined on the number of applicants in the application.

tofiefor,

Are you sure ? look at this quote from canadavisa.com

1.6 Settlement Funds

Applicants are required to demonstrate that they will have sufficient funds to support themselves and any accompanying dependents upon their arrival in Canada. You do not have to show evidence of these funds at the beginning of the application process. You will only have to show evidence of these funds just prior to the issuance of the Permanent Resident Visa. Please note that you will NOT be required to pay these "settlement funds" to the Government of Canada; you will simply be required to prove that you have ready access to such funds (by providing copies of current bank statements, etc.) (see Subsection 1.1(h): "Evidence of Settlement Funds").

Does anyone else know the answer?

Proof of funds is required because the CIC wants to make sure you will be able to support your family and yourself upon arrival. They do not want you or any member of your family to arrive in Canada and become a burden to them. It does not matter how many people you put in your application. You can have 10 kids all over the world. You must only prove that you have enough funds to support you and those who are accompanying you to Canada. If it is only you, your wife and two kids who are going to immigrate to Canada, then your magic number 4.
