Hi,

We are a family of two. so I believe 15,000 CAD would do. Pls confirm.

The question is,

- can I show my Bank Of America account statement loaded with 12,000 USD and rest 3,000 CAD in Cash as Proof of Fund while landing?
- We are planning to land there only a month before our visa expires. Is it okay?
- Secondly, we are planning one of us would come back to India from the airport itself after finishing the procedure of applying PR and SIN card at the POE. Do you see any problem in that? Pls suggest.

thanks in advance.

1) Upon landing you can show proof of funds, in addition to CAD, in any readily transferrable currency - which includes USD, UK Sterling and Euro.

2) As long as you land before the visa expires, it is fine. You can land the day before if you like! After that you must live in Canada for 2 years during the 5 years following your completion of record of landing, in order to renew your PR, if you haven't got citizenship by then.

3) Once you have all completed your record of landing you can do what you like. The only rule is that the principal applicant must complete first (although other members on the application can accompany them at the same time). If you have all completed your record at the same time there is no problem with some people flying back and others staying. Each new permanent resident on the application must meet their own 2 out of 5 year criteria in order for the PR to be renewed in 5 years' time.

Hope this helps,
Wayne.

Thanks for the reply. But still a question unanswered is whether the Bank Statement Print out from Bank of America will do as POF or not. As I see lot of comments from members that statement may not work even if its from USA. is that true?

thanks in advance for your kind advice.

Recent US bank statement would do as POF. Just in case(chances are almost nil) authorities at the airport have any doubt, they can confirm its veracity at any ATM.

If you leave Canada before receiving your new PR card, you must get a "Travel Document" from the local Visa office for re-entry into Canada, as below:

Travel Document - Permanent Resident Abroad

The Travel Document - Permanent Resident Abroad program issues temporary travel documents to permanent residents of Canada abroad who do not have a permanent resident card (PR Card).

Delivered by: Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC)
Application Information

* Application Form

Completed application forms must be submitted in person or by mail to a Canadian mission abroad with the following documentation:

* proof of identity, such as a passport or an identity document issued by the applicant's country of citizenship
* proof of permanent resident status, such as a returning resident permit or an original record of landing document
* a recent, passport-sized photograph

Financial Information

* There is a $50 fee per temporary travel document.

Good luck!

Why not bank statements? Unless the exchange rate improves drammatically we're intending to take completely UK bank statements whilst landing, because frankly now is not a good time to transfer sterling to CAD.

My husband just talked to someone at CBSA.

She said that they dont accept bank statements, its preferable to take cash n other negotiable instruments, and i dont think theres any harm in declaring funds.....

So the choice is yours, if you want even you can check at CBSA.

We are landing in april and taking cash/ draft and all but no bank statements. And we plan to declare at US customs n also at canadian customs.

If you search on other similar topics, you will see that seniors advice not to depend on bank statements as well.

So for us, since we intend to land first (late August/early September 2010) and go home to sort house and things and then move to Canada later (early 2012) - we may be best to have the funds as a bank draft in CAD, and then maybe open a Canadian bank account after we've landed?

The only problem with that is that we'd still have a UK address at that point.

Is it an option to take a draft, then simply not cash it, and cancel it when we get back - effectively leaving the funds in our UK bank account?

Wayne.

Wayne,

No harm writing to CBSA on your particular situation and get their written reply. If CBSA can give a clear answer then you could print it out and use it for your landing purpose. Otherwise, better to play it "safe" and use B.Draft. Priority is to get the 'landed" status.

Good Luck!

Great to share!

At one point, I too was considering making a trip first as the PA, then exit Canada to bring in the rest of the family. And it takes about 1 month to get PR card while in Canada. That's how I found out.

Now witht the "slower" than expected processing, it looks like I will just make the trip as one family; hoping to get kids into school for new academic year starting Sept.

Regards
