Dear Respected Members of the forum, I have a question regarding showing the PoF.
I have a fixed deposit at a bank in my home country. I am in the US at the moment as a student and do not earn here. I will apply for EE while I am in the US. I have two questions:
1. May I provide the bank certificate for the fixed deposit that I maintain at a local bank in my home country even if I apply for EE from the US?
2. Are fixed deposits eligible under PoF criteria? Is there any particular eligibility criteria (e.g. fixed deposits must be readily liquefiable) that CIC stipulates on the use of Fixed Deposits for PoF?

Fixed deposits from a bank in your home country may be submitted as Proof of funds, even if you are currently resident in another country (I am based in Canada, did the same and got my PR). Make sure that the letter from your bank states your account number, duration of the FD, that the FD is without lien and can be broken at any time for your use.
FD's are eligible under PoF criteria since they are non-volatile, liquid investments, available to the investor on payment of a minor penalty.

The real issue for you will be getting such a letter as close to the date you submit your e-APR as possible, while being away from your home country!
Also be advised, that I've seen a few applicants being asked to provide proof of re-invested FD's if the FD matures before your PR application is processed.
