Hello.

I am sponsoring my husband from Iraq and I recieved an email from the embassy today...

(This refers to your application for permanent residence in Canada.

We received the documents you sent us. You are required to submit further documents as below:

· -Advise if your sponsor is currently receiving social assistance or has received assistance in the past. Provide periods of assistance if any.

· -Proof your sponsor has the financial means to support you in Canada. This proof should consist of bank statements, pay stubs, rental agreement or other proof of a residence in Canada.

· -If your sponsor is supported by family members in Canada who will also assist you, provide proof of their financial situation.

· -Proof of any assets or savings you have to bring to Canada.)

Our problem is that I don't have an income. I am looking for work right now, but I haven't been able to find a job. I am working part time at Superstore, but I only have one pay stub from them for $45. They only give me five hours a week, so that is not much to support him. We don't have any savings because of some things we have been through, nor do we have any assets. I only have some gold jewelry that I can sell, but I don't think it will be much.
We can also put some amount into a bank account but I think they would ask why the amount was put into the bank all at one time instead of gradually? It would be hard to believe that it was legit savings if it was all put in at once. I thought we could say that we have been saving that money as cash and only decided to put it into a bank account when they asked for proof of savings, but would that work?
Can anyone help or give me any advice?

Thanks.

CIC wants to know how you are supporting yourself AND how you will be able to support your husband once he becomes a PR.

You obviously cannot support [even] yourself on 5 hours a week of work, so...how are you doing it?

(You should also modify your message above to replace your real name with xxxx xxxxxx). ;)

Yes, I did that, thank you, lol. I noticed it after I posted it.

I couldn't work for a while because I just had a baby, he is now four months old and I just put him into daycare and am looking for work. I had savings before that (not much though) from when I used to work, and I was supporting myself using that money. Also, my husband is working back home and he sends me money monthly. That is how we are supporting ourselves, but they want proof of MY income, not his. For now, I don't have anything.
I am also currently living with a relative, I am not renting anywhere until I can find a job.

How are you surviving week to week now? Are you living with family members who are giving you a place to stay and giving you money to survive? Can those family members write a letter to say that you and your husband can continue living there once he arrives in Canada?

What does your husband do as his profession? Does he plan to do the same once he reaches Canada? If he has an established profession in his home country, then he can show this as proof of what he plans to do once he reaches Canada to support himself and you.

My husband sends me money from his income monthly. Other than that, I had some savings from previous work and I have been using that also. I am currently living with a relative, but we don't plan to stay with her when he arrives. We will be renting as soon as I find a decent job. I do have a relative who helps financially with what she can, but I don't think that will be convincing enough either. As I said, I am looking for a job right now, I just couldn't work before because I had a newborn baby and I couldn't put him into daycare until recently.

My husband is in the army back home right now, and he is not going to be doing that when he gets here. He doesn't have a profession but he is skilled with construction and painting.

I suggest you print the conversations here and attach it to the letter/proof that you will send to them. This will help them know your situation... Praying for you and your family! :)

Okay. I will do that. I might also get a letter of employment from where I work part time now even though it might not be much help, but it will still be something. And I could include the one pay stub I have so far from them...

I also have a daycare subsidy application that states I am looking for work, do you think I should include that also?

Thanks so much for your advice.

Option C from CRA might help to prove that you're not on welfare.

I read on this forums:

Have a relative write you a letter confirming that they are willing to support you financially until you can get on your own feet.
Proofs that husband is sending you money - you will not be on welfare
Write a letter explaining you are actively looking for a job,
Write a letter with plans of how your husband will financially support you if he does land in Canada (IE, certain jobs he can take?)

That's a good advise. Hope this will help athraa!

Thank you so muc, tthat's perfect. I will do all that. Would a job offer for my husband when he lands also be helpful?

Yes - a job offer will definitely help.

However I would strongly advise you not to print the discussion happening here and send this to CIC as well. If anything, this will just serve to increase CIC's concerns about your ability to support your husband.

No I won't do that, i was pplanning on just writing a letter explainingg that I am currently looking for work and that I haven't been able to work because i just had a a baby and that my husband had been sending me money from Iraq and also some relatives have been helping out. I'll also send a lletter froma relative dating that she will help us when he arrives until recently are financially stable and can rent our own place.

good luck!!! Taking care of a young baby and not having your husband around must be really hard. Hope your application will be processed ASAP!!

I am stuck home with two girls and my husband over at UK. Luckily I have my parents next door and I don't have to worry about financial issues yet.

It's extremely difficult but we are coping...
It's great you have your parents around to help! That's a big plus.
