Recently applied for proof of citizenship (Canadian) on an urgent basis and was wondering how long the process would take. The processing times currently show 6 months but has anyone received a replacement certificates sooner? My original was lost and I need the replacement urgently.

My son (minor) got his card in only 4 weeks. We needed his proof of citizenship for applying for OHIP health card. We did not request urgent processing. However, this was a new card (not replacement) for a minor and maybe CIC would prioritze such application? Also, this was in 2009... and maybe it's different now?

Unfortunately the time line is very different now due to backlogs.

I wish it was 4 weeks! I have a feeling 6 months is about what you can expect. Better than the 12 months it was saying that it would take, this was just a few months ago.

Checked the Govt website today and the status went from nothing to "completed" ! they mailed out my replacement certificate within 1 month of receiving the application (I sent in proof of urgency) I'm very impressed!
