I received acceptance letter from University of Victoria (Master’s Program) and submitted my visa application on December 1, 2014 - Paper based from Saudi Arabia (I wanted to submit early but due to some documents I was unable to do that). In Saudi Arabia normal processing time is 21 days and 44 during peak time (July and August). Today is the 24th day and I haven't received any update regarding my visa. I will wait for one week and then I will defer my admission to September 2015 (summer intake is not available for my program).

I have following questions

1: Do I need to inform Embassy in Saudi Arabia regarding my deferral or it doesn't matter?
2: If I will receive my visa approval after I take deferral, for example on 27th January 2015, Is there any specific time during which I have to travel like 3 months OR Can I travel in July 2015 or August 2015 for Sept 2015 term.
3: As far as I understood the procedure. I will receive TRV (valid for 1-2 years and I need to travel before my TRV expire) and study permit will be issued when I will enter Canada (I have to show updated acceptance letter and explain reason of my deferral there). Kindly assist me if I am missing something.

Information about Applicant
Nationality: Pakistani, residing in Saudi Arabia from past 23 years
Passport valid until 2019
Program of Interest and University: MEd at University of Victoria (Minimum length according to information for study permit document issued by University: 1 year)

1. Doesn't matter. CHC will ask you to submit a letter of deferral in case processing get delayed and you deserved approval.
2&3. You won't get visa right away in case of deferral. You will get a 'letter of deferral request' + PP (if you have submitted any) along with instructions to submit LOD & PP 3 months before the next intake. Visa is guaranteed.

1. You will have to submit your deferral letter if you do not get visa on time.
2. You can travel in July for sept.
3. TRV is issued for the duration of your course or your passport expiry date, whatever comes first. And yes you will have to show updated letter at POE and you can easily explain reasons for your deferral like you got your visa late so that's why you deferred because your next intake was only available in fall 15.

Exactly the same case is with me, my visa was delayed so I had to defer and now I shall be going in July.

I got my visa after submitting deferral letter and my course is available in sept intake. Other guy from Pakistan got his visa as well but his course is available in sept 15 intake.

Thanks for the information.

That means I have nothing to worry about if I get approval.

I just received reply from the embassy that I might receive the decision within 21 working days (which is 31st December for me).

Lets see what will happen

Most likely, you are the third member (since 2012) on this forum to get a visa based on deferral. First two forum members are Indian students; 'enfield' & 'jassik'. Both had a deferral "request" from the CHC India in 2012. Jassik had a 'letter request' and enfield, a straight phone call. In both cases, visa was issued within 3 months before the commencement of classes.

Not a good idea to rely 'strictly' on processing time. That's applicable for '80 percent' of cases. Its not uncommon to receive approval even after/around 'international students orientation' in class.

i also know a girl who got deferral letter for may and she got her visa last month in november. There are few others as well but most of the people are not the members. So we have a limited information, based on this forum.

Right..
Processing time is an average time and it may take a longer than that. Processing time in Pakistan is 11weeks but it took 4months in getting my visa.

How many days does it take after submitting the deferral letter to get the passport request?
