Hello everyone,

I work as a teacher and researcher in Spain (University Jaume I, from Castellón) and my University gives me the financiacion in order to do a research in the University of Ottawa

My question is: due I have the letter of commitment from Ottawa, I guess --as a spanish citizen-- to apply for any kind of Visa to work in Canadá. In that case, could you help me to obtain it? What I must do?

In short please

1) what kind of visa I need in my case

2) which documments to ask for it

3) what steps I must do?

Anyway, from Embassy of Canada in Paris I get this information:

TEMPORARY WORK PERMITS

Every year, foreigners enter Canada to work temporarily in jobs that help Canadian employers address skill shortages. Citizenship and Immigration Canada and Service Canada ensure that the arrival of foreign workers will contribute to the economic development of Canada and will create job opportunities for Canadians.
1 / Who needs a work permit?
In general, all foreign nationals wishing to work in Canada must obtain a work permit before entering Canada. However, certain types of employment are exempt from obtaining a Work Permit.

It is important to know that in Canada, an internship is considered a job even if it is short-term or unpaid. A work permit is therefore required.

If you work in Canada without a work permit, you may be deported and rendered inadmissible for a period of up to 5 years.

2 / What are the options to get a work permit?
In most cases, your employer in Canada must contact Service Canada to request a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), that is to say, the authorization to hire an employee who is not a citizen or a resident of Canada.

a) Certain types of jobs are not affected by the above step.
b) International Experience Canada (IEC) offers young people the opportunity to travel and work in Canada. IEC is offered in countries with which Canada has a bilateral agreement on youth mobility.

3 / How to submit your application?

a) IEC: To complete an applications under the IEC initiative, you must follow these steps:
a. Create a Kompass account
b. Submit an IEC application via the Kompass account
c. Create a MyCIC account
d. Apply for a work permit through a MyCIC account, after you have received the conditional acceptance letter (CAL)

Please verify your Kompass and MyCIC accounts regularly as CIC may contact you at any time for more information.

b) For all other Work Permit Applications,

4 / Does your employer need to pay the Employer Compliance Fee?
If so, your employer must pay the fee and fill out the IMM5802 form BEFORE you submit your application.

5 / Can I apply for an open work permit?
Yes in some cases. There is an additional fee of 100$ in addition to the processing fee for your Open Work Permit Application. Some examples of people who can apply for an Open Work Permit: Working Holiday Program or the spouse or common law partner of a Work Permit or Study Permit holder.

For more information on work permit extension requests, getting your educational credential assessed, preparing to work in Canada and/or job search:

I'm not quite sure but, inside the different types of visa, I guess I must apply for the International Experience Canada Spain — International Co-op (Internship)

However, this status now is closed and then I can not do the register and create a Kompass account (2015 is closed yet)

Please, due my stay at Canada will start at 1 of September, what must I do? all of this is not open yet

Thank you
