Processing times with Job Offer

Hi,

I will be finishing my PhD (Computer Science in England) within one year. I plan to emigrate to Canada where my girlfriend is living (she is Canadian).

My question is assuming that I have a job offer how long it may take from the moment of applying for a VISA till the time I will receive the job offer.
I read on many forums that it may take up to 3 years which seems a non-sense as no company would wait three years for an employee.

It was before 2013 but now almost its done within year .....although London Visa Office official time is 21 Months .....

I have read some accounts that took around 5 weeks given that employer was responsive during the process.

It really varies case to case and depends on your documents and security checks ......i know a person who got his visas just in 5 month since filed an application ........
