Hey everyone,

We are getting ready to apply for my wifes PR here in Canada. She is American, and we've decided to apply Outland (Family Class).

People always say Outland is the quickest, however.. a quick look of the processing times says it's 29 months for Los Angeles and 35 months for New York!
www . cic. gc. ca /english/information/times/perm/fc-spouses. asp

Am I missing something here? That seems like a very long time to wait...

Thanks so much!

Jason

Since she is American, she will be processed in Ottawa, which currently states that it has a 16 month processing time, but it is rare that applicants have to wait that long. Most applicants are processed in under 10 months. The times provided on CIC's website are worst case scenarios. You will be fine!

Yes you are missing something, those times are worst-case scenarios for people that end up needing interviews or have complicated cases for some reason. Most American cases are transferred to Ottawa. For the average American PR with a solid application you can expect much shorter times. Ours went through in under 4 months start to finish. You can check my signature for some spreadsheets with more accurate times, look at Ottawa VO for the American averages. You can expect it to take more like 5-9 months on average.

Ok, that is very good to know. The website says it's the AVERAGE time, so it's a bit misleading I think. Oh well... better to expect 3 years and get it in 10 months.. ;D

Thanks so much for the quick response. You guys are awesome :D

I was in the same boat myself! (I'm american). My application, and quite a few others I've seen, have taken about 9 months from start to finish even with request for addition documents. As long as there are no delays you should be fine. :)

To clarify, as stated at the top of the processing times webpage, the posted times are how long it took to process 80% of apps; this is far different from an average. 79% of apps are processed faster than the posted time, with the actual average being several months less.
