Hi,

I have sent my passport and my brother's passport to CPP-O to apply for Temporary Resident Visa about a month ago. He's a minor so I'm his legal guardian and I listed him as my dependent on the Family Information form in the TRV application. But now, to obtain my brother's visa, he needs to apply for a study permit extension and I just sent that application today. It will take some time for him to obtain a new study permit and probably some time after that to receive his visa.
Our passports are at CPP-O office but I need to have my passport back by Dec 30, 2012 to fly to Edmonton. I'm in Ottawa right now, I have a valid study and work permit. I'm travelling to Edmonton alone and will stay there for 1 week, my brother will stay in Ottawa during that time.

- Will my brother's study permit application slow down the processing time for BOTH of our visa applications?
- Will I get my passport back before Dec 30 or should I just cancel the application to be certain I'll have my passport before my travel?
- If I do cancel my TRV application, I won't have any valid visa (only valid study and work permit) so will that be a problem at the airports even if I won't travel outside of Canada?
- Will I receive a refund if I cancel my TRV application?

Thank you so much!

You don't require a passport or TRV to fly within Canada. You need identification though, Drivers License etc.

Really? I don't need a passport to travel inside of Canada? I'm an international student though.
Do I need to have my study permit with me if I travel or is just a driver's license good enough?

Hi,
I contacted the travel agency where I booked my plane ticket and they suggested I should still have my passport with me when I travel (even within Canada) because when I check-in at the airport, they might only accept my passport as proof of ID.
I emailed CPP-O yesterday to let them know I've sent my brother's study permit and I've also let them know about my flight on Dec 30. They replied me but I find their answer confusing. Are they saying that my brother's application for extension of study permit might delay my application for TRV?
It's 2 different passports (mine and my brother's) so wouldn't it be 2 different applications?
Below is my email and their answer.
Please clarify for me. Thank you!

Hello,

I just sent out my brother's application for a extension of study permit today. I sent it by Canada Xpresspost mail to CPC-V and they should receive it shortly. Please do not cancel my brother's Temporary Resident Visa application until we receive an answer from CPC-V regarding his study permit.

I hope my brother's application for an extension of study permit will not affect my application for TRV. I need to obtain my passport back before Dec 30, 2012 as I will be travelling from Ottawa to Edmonton. If possible, please proceed with my application for TRV in the meantime.

I greatly appreciate your help,

Thank you,

Dear Client,

Thank you for the information.

Once you receive your new Permit, you may send us a scanned copy of it by responding to our request letter.
Please note that our office will not be able to finalize your application until a new permit is issued by the CPC-V. If you need to travel urgently in the meantime, you may wish to withdraw this application and we will return your passport.

For your information, you retain the option of applying for a new temporary resident visa to the overseas office responsible for the country where you will be travelling.

Sincerely,

1. Your travel agency doesn't know what they are talking about. If you check WestJet or Air Canada, for travel in Canada, all you require is 1 piece of government ID and a Driver's license meets that requirement.
