I am wondering what the process has been like when starting this. Where does one begin & do you wait for all the paperwork to be completed? What if you have a job vs not? How much of a difference does that make?

Process for what - immigrating to Canada. Do you have an Express Entry profile with completed IELTS and ECA.
The federal program is Express Entry. Research to see if eligible based on you age, education (need equivalency assessments), language (need IELTS exams) and skilled work experience. Are you a US citizen?

I don’t know your profile - whether you have a masters, what your occupation is (National Occupation Classification - 4 digit code), age and your language scores.
Ok so is that what I do first then? A language test for what? Is it taken online? So zero then. Age matters? 51.
You need to take an English language test…it is mandatory even if first language is English. If you are 51, most likely you are not eligible for Express Entry. After age 45, you get no points. You get maximum points if you are under 35. Do you have a degree? What is your job?

Really there is a cutoff for express entry? What are the other options then?
Yes I have a Bachelor's degree. I am an Operations Manager.

Yes there is a cutoff. Most people receiving an invitation right now have Masters/two degrees or more/Phd, know French and English, have Canadian education and/or work experience. People coming have to show proficiency in either French or English. Plus you need to show proof of funds for the number of people in your family.
Honestly with a bachelors and being 51 you will not be eligible for Express Entry. You can look at Provincial programs or look for jobs and get a job offer. The employer has apply for a LMIA and prove no Canadian or PR can do the job.

So having higher or multiple degrees is necessary? I am not sure what you mean by proficiency though. How much do you need to have in the bank? There is not anyone else.

You are not eligible for Express Entry based on your age. Express Entry is designed for young skilled people with degrees (many have more than one or masters). For English, you need to take an test and score a minimum so advanced-intermediate.
If you are serious about immigrating then you need to start your own job search through Linkedin, Indeed, Job Bank. You then have to find an employer who has been unable to hire a Canadian or Permanent residence. If you do then the employer must file and pay for a Labour Market Impact Assessment and show that they can’t hire anyone, only you. Then once you have a LMIA, you can apply for a closed work permit. However, this may not lead to Permanent residency.
You can visit Canada up to 6 months and work remotely. You can own a home in Canada. Many Canadians live the winter months in the Southern US.
So if I am there working remotely & don't need a job how does that change things? I don't have a need for perm residency just yet, or how does that work? I have no interest in being here during the summer, too damn hot!
