Process Aproved!! Now what?

Hello all!

I am very excited, as I have been informed by the VO (email) that our process has been finalized and approved, and that we will receive confirmation by post soon.


Great news! Now we are all set to book our flights to Canada. I am canadian, but lived almost my whole life abroad, while my partner has never lived in Canada.


What are our next steps (we are moving to Toronto)?

We will have to present the confirmation that we will receive at the airport, and then they will issue the permanent resident card?

What must we do regarding health care? And social security? Exchanging our driving licences?

Anything else? Any tips? Wow there is so much on my mind now!

Hi Kevs,

Congratulations of the pr approval!
At the port of entry at the airport, you will have to submit the confirmation of permanent residency. It's a long piece of paper that will be given to u from the vo. This is the most important piece of paper, so keep it safe! Following that, the immigration officer at the airport will ask a couple questions about address and if there has been any change in family composition. Once u finish there youre officially a pr of Canada!

For health care in Ontario, u have to wait 3 months upon landing to receive the benefit. To register, go to the service Ontario office and register. You will need your copr paper and proof of address. They are strict on this, but u can use a mailed bank statement as proof. You can look it up online to see what else is used as proof.
For sin, or social security, u have to go to the Service Canada office. This one was easier to prove. We just showed the copr and a letter showing the new bank account.
As for drivers licenses, I'm not sure....

You will have your new pr card mailed to u at the address u give upon landing at the airport. It takes between 1-2 months to arrive on average.

This is the easy part! Enjoy!

btw. Could you kindly tell us which is your VO ? And Maybe share your timeline with us. Especially at these times of strikes and delays it would be good to know!

Thanks Kevs for taking the time to answer. So all in all took you aprox 7 months to complete! Great. From our Feb thread we had the two people from Paris VO who got it in less than 4 months.

As for the driver licnese you have to go to th eMinistry of Transportation, some of the countires are not valid you hav to redo again the G1, G2 and the G, but i dont know frm which country you have your licnese ,
You need to have Medical insurance for 3 months waiting period until you are having your PR,

by the VO.

For driving licence: go to http://www.ontario.ca/driving-and-roads/driving-and-roads and see what is needed. Depending on which country issued your driving licence in the first place, the rules are different, so it's worth looking into it before arriving, in case you need some extra papers (letter of experience proving that you have been driving for a certain number of years etc.).

MNVC, we are from a visa exempt country, so we didn't have our passport stamped.

Another question - Regarding importing our belongings to Canada, as I understand, both me (returning Canadian), as my partner, will have to fill out the B4 form:


1) Do the items to be freely imported have a maximum value amount?

2) Can the items identified to be imported later, be brought by a relative or friend when they visit, or will we have to bring them ourselves when we travel back?

For your partner (future PR), he/she can import pretty much anything, as long as it's on the B4 when he/she lands. you can fill out a B4 with the goods that you're importing when you land, and one with "goods to follow" that will arrive later. Both need to be stamped at the time of landing to be able to have the duty-free part.
Then - when the goods arrive later, you should have the B4 stamped to show that they can be imported into the country dutyfree.
