Dear all, did not know until last night that Canada has reopened FSW though there is cap for each occupation. After doing the quick read on CIC website I think the process is just to fill the form and send it. Right? I have to make sure it by myself that if I meet their criteria. Is there any simply explained process ? Please share.

Another question is around occupational list. I am in IT industry in software and systems..both are related with Computer Engineering. In their list it says Computer Engineers but this is a broad definition. Do I fall in this category? Btw, I hold a BS degree in Electronics and Information Engineering. Or their occupational list is meant to point to the major subject I graduated with? Please enlighten on this.

I am not sure where to start and how.

you can search all the titles which comes in the computer engineer category. examples are computer systems engineer, computer hardware engineer, computer network engineer................
if your roles and responsibilities match with the computer engineer's duties as described by CIC. then i am sure you can apply for the FSWP, and you have to calculate your points i hope you know about it that 67 is the qualifying marks.
you can calculate your points here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-factors.asp
plus you need to assess your educational credentials from World education services and there are two more assessment authorities. you can choose any one of these.

and yes applying is simple, fill up the forms carefully, attach all supporting documents including original IELTS report car, original WES credential assessment letter , pay the fee and send it.

But...........i am afraid you will not be in the cap for this year as for computer engineers the cap is 246 and CIC is currently processing applications of early july.

so prepare all your documents and apply for 2014. :)

Thanks a bunch, Luqi.

I think I am going through some confusions and need help from all of you here.

1- I hold a BS degree in Electronics and Information Engineering from a reputed Chinese university. As I read the education section , it says the following:

"University level entry-to-practice professional degree (or equalFootnote 1)" and I think my education degree falls on this category. I need to get my education assessed, of course. So, I am counting this for 23 points. Please share if you have gone through this and done with it.

2- My second question is around the language part. I read the language section and it says following. For listening part, If I hit band 7 or 6.5 in IELTS I will get "4" for it. Am I right here?

Thanks again for your help. I sure need help and support from you guys so that I could make sure that I can go through it before I dive into this hectic immigration process...otherwise it will be wastage of both money and time.

2- for language testing CIC calculates points per ability, let me explain this
if you have 7.5 in listening and the rest module all is 6.5 you will get 5 points per ability means total of 20 points, if you have 7.5 in listening and 6 in reading, 6 in writing 6.5 in speaking you will get points like listening=5, reading=4, writing=4 and speaking=5 you can calculate your language ability points here.

Other members have answered most of your questions, however I just wanted to make sure you understand the only criteria is not, having a degree with the same title as on the occupation list.

For each category in the occupation list, there is a list of duties mentioned. If in your current + previous job you perform 80% of those duties then you can apply. Simply self assessing your self as a computer engineer will not satisfy CIC

I am not sure where to start and how.

Thnx. Sorry for not being clear enough with my question. I hate my this weakness. The question would have been -- what is the score for listening if i hit 6.5 or 7 in IELTS? I think it should be 4 but i still want to confirm it.

I am not sure why i am not allowed to paste link in my posts. Probably i. Need ti hit certain number of posts for that.

I have not got the answer yet on my major subject in the college question. My major was in Electronics & Information Engg. which is not Computer Engineering but I have been working in Computer Systems and Software domain for last 10 years. I think the experience field looks good as it is in the NOC. But my question is again on my major for my qualification. And in NOC there is no such occupation listed related to my major which is Electronics and Information engineering.

So, if I apply with Computer Engineers category, would there be any issue due to the different major on my qualification certs? Though there were many computer related subjects in the college.

On the language criteria link it has point system for "English as your first official language" and "as second official language". And they are of different points. i am non native English speaker. Should i say it becomes the latter one for me and i get only 4 points as max for that while it is 24 for the first one. Please help.
