I'm just wondering if anyone has had issues with the RCMP and obtaining the criminal record check? I am sponsoring my husband from Costa Rica and immigration sent his fingerprints to the RCMP in January. We have been waiting all this time and my MP finally contacted immigration and they said they are still waiting for the RCMP to send it! Its been 9 months! Both my MP and immigration emailed the RCMp asking about it.

I am just wondering, how long does it take the RCMP to respond?

Also has anyone had any other issues obtaining it?

I know my husband has no criminal record at all, so I am really confused as to what is going on.

Thanks for any help and advice!

Security check is one of the things that take a long time, if there are no issues he should be okay

It has to be lost in the System, as it takes about 120 days for paper prints to be processed by the RCMP. I suggest you orders your spouses CAIPS notes to determine what the problem is. You will need authorization from him to do it. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/atip/index.asp

Do you have to do it by the National RCMP "check" system? I know that local RCMP offices can do it for you if you present yourself and they have access to the same databases. That only takes a few days. I faxed the form from the embassy in London and they faxed back the cleared check the same day.

no my husband had to go and manually do fingerprints at the local police station in costa rica, send the forms to guatemala, and then guatemala had to send them to the RCMP. It takes 12-15 weeks, or is supposed to, but they havent sent ours back to guatemala yet.

A name check from the RCMP is not good enough, you require a fingerprint check.

Hi, could you please confirm whether you faxed fingerprints file to RCMP. And how did you present yourself to RCMP local office if you were in London, UK (I assume you meant London, UK). Or did you present yourself in Canada before you came to London?

Ok so we re-submitted the fingerprints, apparently they now have it on file but just need the fingerprints. Do you think it will be another 120 days to process or will they just push it through when they get it?
