this is really weird, so dont get shocked.

i have indian passport, with no first name written on it, my true first and last name is written on the Family Name.

we have tried request of change of name in indian embassy, they said they cannot remove any word/name from the first name. so what can i do now?

my passport, TRV, study permit, work permit, drivers license (canadian) all have family name but no first name (they had to follow the passport format)

now im having trouble (delays only, no denial) whenever i apply for some government or immigration form in Canada. the agent always say, "wow, this is weird". :(

This looks strange. so why didn't they do the same as they were in your old passports? Anyway, if these passports have the number of your old passports, then I think they should calm down nerves.

problem started with my 1st passport (i have 3 passports), first passport had no first name.

like what just happened today, i went to apply for SIN number, they said their computer application wont accept an empty field (first name), so i have to write the details on a paper, then it will take few weeks to get my SIN number.

the empty field in my passport is causing delays on almost every government application. (even when i went to apply for driver's license, they took like 30 mins to verify and call the higher position manager or whoever it is to ask how to submit an application w/o first name)

Not sure if it's of any help but I had a bit of a problem with my passport too. My mother's surname was wrong and I was all paranoid about it. I asked the Passport office to fix it and the best they could do was write an observation on one of the pages that they acknowledged that the name was wrong and the original name was blah blah blah... I am an indian passport holder too.

I also had the same problem with my first passport. They made a mistake with the partern of the name. I immediately sent it back and showed them my birth cert. So they re-issued a new passport with the newly cancelled passport indicated as " the holder travelled on the passport no. .... Although it wasn't so, it was better.

I think if you've first name on your birth certicate, then you can appeal the Indian Passport Office's decision not to indicate your first name. Or else you'll face problem everywhere and sometimes you may encounter unnecessry delays at airports.
