Problem getting police certificate - Express Entry

Hi,

I need to get a police certificate from Kenya for my Express Entry application but have a snag. I was there as a tourist for more than six months over ten years ago and no longer have proof that I was in the country. My passport with the visa stamp was lost and the email account with flight details is now closed.

The Kenyan Embassy in UK (where I live) have said they won't be able to issue a certificate because there is no proof I was in the country.

I had a free consultation with a registered Canadian immigration advisor who said it shouldn't be a problem, as essentially if I had committed a crime (I haven't) that I would come up in their system. So even if I haven't gotten proof of being there, the Kenyan police should know that I have a clean record.

So...I'm wondering if I can ask for a letter from the Kenyan police to say that they tried to run my name through their system, but couldn't come up with anything. I have read on another forum that this sort of letter was adequate for Canadian immigration with some explanation.

The immigration advisor obviously said he'd be able to sort it, but I'm keen to avoid paying through the nose for representation when I'm confident I can sort all my paperwork (perhaps apart from this one).

Has anyone had a similar experience? I'm thinking it must be common for people to not be able to prove all their travel records.

Many thanks.

Lucy
