Hi everybody,

I have decided to start private tutoring like 5 to 10 hrs a week. I am an international student and I find my students on the Internet so I was wondering if I need to have a work-permit to be able to do private tutoring and how can I report the income I have for the tax purpose if I should report. I want to hold the tutoring sessions in the university library or any other places on campus.

With Regards

1. Yes, you need a work permit.

how should this income be declared on income tax forms?

would it be correct to put it under "Other employment income" line 104 in the T1 General tax return? It is too casual to be considered a business, but just wondering how this should be legally accounted for in regards to taxes?

tutoring being similar to babysitting I guess, mostly cash paid for a few hours of time here and there, they almost need a column for petty cash exchanges under a few hundred dollars in a year
