Principal Applicant's passport expires in June 2014. Can we apply now or...?

We're doing a sponsorship application while living in Canada.

The principal applicant's passport expires in Jun 2014, but we have to finish the application and send it before the end of this year. Is it possible to apply with the current passport and then renew it [takes 3-4 months] and then update the application somehow?
Or do we have to renew the passport before?

you can apply now,send a copy of ur passport and include a letter explaining that youre renewing your passport..vo send email to applicants saying to renew passport.i suggest you apply now so processing can start while waiting for renewal..
