You may bring prescription medication to Canada if it was issued to you and is in it's original packaging and you are only bringing up to 3 months worth of it.
If there is a medication you take on a regular basis, google the name of the medication as well as price and Canada and you will have some idea about how much it will cost.
Health care in Canada does not cover medication but you may have a supplementary insurance through work or through your university that covers a portion of it.
