dear all, I am new on this forum

first thing first - great to see such usefull forum and people helping/advising each other in whatever possible way they can

right, I am puting up this post on behalf of my brother. He did his Masters in Enviornment back in 2002/03 from Pakistan. After that he started working and got married. He then moved to Kuw with his wife and now living in Kuw with his wife and two kids who are <3 years of age.

My question is: He now wants to go for PHD and I have been doing some search and found Manitoba Uni and saskatchewan Uni to be useful for his studies.

1.It seems he has to follow the graduation route before heading towards PHD. is this correct?
2. As for the finances part he has saving of his own but his father in law also willing to support him for the studies and move. can he use his bank statement?
3. will it effect his application if he wants to move with his wife and kids? because from what I read on this forum the CIC will have a valid reason to suggest that he does not intend to come back !!
4. Any other uni anyone can recoment

thanks in advance for taking the time to read and post your replies

ta :)

Im not a senior but In my opinion to reduce visa rejection is better if he do the master , work 1 year and get the permanent residence , then he can ask for family sponsorship. I think it would look fishy if he wants to take his all family in the trip.

In my experience it is very difficult to get into Phd directly specially from Pakistan. He have to go through Master's first.
Secondly ask him to apply for his own visa first. Settle over there and then try for his family visa.
His wife has to show her home ties and that she has a strong profile.

Dear

It depends upon person to person but i think it will take more than six months because there is a rule that he can do off campus job after six months + 45 days for (off campus work permit approval).
Ask him to build the profile of his wife means property in her name , her job etc etc. It will help a lot in getting visa for a family.

thanks again for your valuable advice.. she already has one land in her name and also she will be getting one house as a gift from her father .. the total worth is around Rs 35lacs + cash of around Rs10lac in her bank account.. would have been ideal if they all went togather but than again i think you right about proving ties back home.. hmmm

any other suggestions you can give for instance MPNP application !!

For Ph.D, first thing is finding a research supervisor/Professor in the relevant area in University of study and then getting admission in that university. Once you find a supervisor, admission process becomes easy because of supervisor's recommendations and interest. In most cases, supervisor asks for scholarship for students as well.

If you get scholarship, CIC would have no problem, whether you bring your family along you or not. On the other hand, you have to show enough financial support for your whole family.

Visa officers know, anyone who is going for Ph.D is a genuine student, and he/she can't stay alone leaving his family behind for at least 3 years.

After enrollment in Ph.D program, prepare your case properly. InshaALLAH, your case will be processed smoothly. Canadians want scholars in their country.

bichoosn : thanks for your input , i think I better ask him to look for supervisor in MUN (Newfound land) coz apparently Manitoba is a difficult option as it appears..!!
