Hi all,

Firstly I’d like to apologise if this question has already been answered but I can’t seem to find it.

I applied for a working holiday visa from the UK in 2016 and moved to Vancouver soon after. I was there for the full 2 year duration, applied for an extension, which got accepted and was looking into my employer at the time to sponsor me.

However I had to move back to the UK because of my family and now 2 years after I am very interested in returning to Canada.

My previous employer in Vancouver is happy to sponsor me but I just wanted to know if this is something I can work towards, the problem that is playing on my mind is that the work is a hospitality role and not under the skilled worker as such.

I’m terribly sorry if I have babbled on I’m just really hoping there is a way around this but not really sure how to approach it.
Many many many thanks in advance to anyone who can throw in a suggestion. :):)

Your employer would need to give you a job offer and obtain an approved LMIA to sponsor you. The LMIA will be the hard part since the requirements are quite involved - including advertising the job to prove no Canadian could be hired for the role. You can read more about that here:

https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-development/services/foreign-workers/median-wage/low/requirements.html

It may be quite challenging to get an LMIA approved for a hospitality role - however your employer can certainly try.

Thank you very much for the reply,

Just a few questions, would it be better for me to try and apply for a PR myself? Could I do both? I understand that coming over with hospitality experience isn’t really one top of the list but would it suffice? I have a digital marketing degree but haven’t had enough experience to qualify for the express entry.

I’m so confused how to go about with this but will give my all to try. What would be my best choice?

I really do appreciate your help.

I’ve also just noticed that there are LMIAs online, which is a first for me! Do these actually work? Surely some are scammers?
