Let's write a thread with the specific steps to follow when preparing a citizenship application, like "citizenship for dummies":

1) Print calendars for past 4 (or 6) years
2) Get CBSA report - will take 1 month!
http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/agency-agence/reports-rapports/pia-efvp/atip-aiprp/req-dem-priv-eng.html
If haven't been to US, skip to step 5
3) Get I-94 report
https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/request.html
4) Sign up for FOIA and submit request - will take more than 1 month!
https://foiaonline.regulations.gov/foia/action/public/request/publicPreCreate
5) Find old passports / copies
6) Circle on calendars with green marker all dates from CBSA report (entry)
7) Circle on calendars with red marker all dates from passports (entered another country), I94 and/or FOIA
8 ) Verify there is a matching exit date for every entry date and all records have been transferred to calendar. If YES, proceed to step 11
9) If no match for exit dates, search email in range around entry date for:
- flight tickets
- hotel bookings
If match found for all dates, print proof, circle with red and proceed to step 11
11) If can't match exit/entry dates and can't find evidence of travel, look for bank/credit card statements around dates. Make best guess. Print statements. If foreign countries known, try to obtain records from foreign countries. Circled dates on calendar.
12) Input dates from calendar to on-line calculator.
13) Fill in (dummy) application, collect required documents and set alarm for at least one day after application date.
14) Print and sign official application.
15) Attach photocopies of evidence collected above (if complicated) and other required documents and submit application.
16) Hope for the best.
