Pregnant on a working Visa, With a Canadian husband

I am currently in Canada on a Working permit, my husband is Canadian, resident of Saskatchewan. We are currently living in Regina. I am 3 months pregnant and wondering where I stand for health coverage? and what happens when I have had the baby, does it have citizenship? and what does that do for me?

Are you covered by the health care in SK? Temporary foreign workers usually are. If you are, then your health care expenses will be covered.

If you have worked 600 or more hours by the time you go on maternity leave, you would be able to get maternity benefits, see http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/sc/ei/benefits/maternityparental.shtml

Your baby will be a Canadian citizen. Having a Canadian baby will do absolutely nothing for your status. If you want to stay in Canada for good, your husband needs to sponsor you for PR or you need to find a way to apply for it on your own.

Just so you most of the private insurance companies do not cover any expenses related to pregnancy, however there are a few out there that cover pregnancy up until 31 weeks. They would not cover delivery or regular check ups, however if you go in labour 9 weeks or more before your due date or if there is any emergency you could be covered. Just fyi!
