Hi there,

I sent my application for PR in November of last year (my common-law partner is sponsoring me. INLAND application) In January we found out that we are expecting a baby. I do not have health insurance or any kind of coverage since I came as a visitor and then kept extending my stay. ( I did have one at first but it was costing too much) I am from Mexico.

We recently moved to Alberta and he has a new job. He will get benefits after 3 months but I am not sure if I can get in his coverage for being common-law or they don't care about it since I am not PR yet.

Does somebody have any advice of what to do? I am freaking out because we can't pay for the labor expenses...it's very much!

Am I eligible for any kind of insurance or health coverage?

I am sure in CIC they don't care if I got pregnant, they won't accelerate my application by any means, right?

I cannot go out to Mexico for delivery the last months because besides the hardship of separation, they don't guarantee my entry again so... What do I do???!! HELP Please.

By the way, I am due in September

You may be able to get his coverage but his work insurance will be supplemental. It will cover things that AB health doesn't normally pay for like medications and dental. It would not cover your delivery.

You will probably be able to get AB health after you get first stage approval. First stage approval shouldn't take much more than 6 months so if all goes well, you could expect it in May.

I have heard that there is a free clinic in Toronto. Some people have used it for child birth. I can not give you any further information on it though.
