Hello all.
My wife is pregnant, she came into Canada a while back under visitor visa,
I'm a permanent resident and we are both living in NS
I'm close to start the sponsorship application so she can get a legal status, but for now we are short of money (we are saving for it)
We are not thinking on her going back to native country, as Canada is my home and we both want to make Canada our home.

How can I get a treatment for her? Is there any medical assistance for undocumented?
I know in US they have the free care for undocumented, is there similar care here?
I called one Hospital and they told us to go to a walking clinic, once there the first appointment cost was 250 CAD.

Any guidance will be highly appreciated.
Thank you

Call to another walk in clinic.

Also use a Search here on the forum. There was recently a link to the organozation where you could be helped (it was in ON, however, but maybe the same help you may get in NS.

You do know that just sending in a sponsorship application doesn't change her immigration status? She will remain "out of status" until she fixes that or she becomes a PR.

Unfortunately, it's a very common situation and the only thing I could suggest is maybe getting a midwife. They charge a lot less and are highly trained. You might also want to get her emergency coverage, which would cover her for complications such as miscarriage, bleeding, preterm labor and more. This type of insurance also cover her for emergencies that are not related to the pregnancy. If you need more information, you can email us at arbetov.office@gmail.com or visit our website.

A midwife and having the birth at home is your best bet for keeping the costs of the pregnancy low. I believe in certain provinces the services of midwives may even be free.
