Hello Members,
I am in a dilemma currently.

I started working full time on 20-May-2019 and my PGWP is valid till 12-Jun-2020.
I am expecting and the due date is 22-May-2020.

As per ESA, I am allowed to take Pregnancy leave and Parental leave.

However, I have the below question.

Can I skip taking pregnancy leave and only take Parental leave?
The reason I am asking is if the baby is born before 20-May-2020 for e.g. 15-May-2020 and if I start pregnancy leave from 15-May-2020, I cannot show complete 1 year of experience and hence, cannot apply for PR under CEC.

NOTE: I am already in EE pool and my score has been increased on 1-April. CIC added points for CEC on 1st April itself. However, if I receive ITA, I am planning to submit the application only after 20-May-2020 with a Letter of Explanation that my points were added earlier than expected.

Your comments/opinions/advice will be much appreciated.

Thanks.
Regards

Your question doesn't really make sense, as parental leave is treated the same as maternity leave. It doesn't matter which leave you are on.

Hello,
Thanks for your response.
As per CIC, these 2 are separate leaves. Maternity leave is for the mother who is pregnant or has just given birth and Parental leave is for both mother and Father. we have to apply for these leaves separately.
My question is can I not take maternity leave and take only parental leave?

Thanks.

Well aren't you supposed to apply for them? I think it should be obvious to say that if you don't want you don't apply and don't take the leave I don't think anyone will be forcing you to.

In terms of work experience, which is what you seem to be asking about, you seem to think that parental counts as experience but maternity doesn't. As I said, both leaves are essentially treated the same.

Unless you get one full year of actual work experience, you won't qualify.
