I guess another way to look at it is that the children of these first-gen immigrants will eventually get a job in Canada, work, pay taxes, and contribute to the country. And besides, doesn't Canada tax the income of people with a family in Canada?
Yes they should pay tax is family is in Camada but it doesn't happen in many cases. Some are here for the schooling, safe environment and in general to citizenship as an insurance policy foe their families. Yes if they stay and work it evens out in the end but unfortunately often doesn't work out that way.

True. I can understand first-gens not staying due to assimilation/job issues/ties to home country etc but my personal view is that the second-gen children should most definitely stay and contribute in some way to Canada or if they couldn't care about Canada renounce their citizenship. Of course this is just idealism. Unfortunately for most folks it's a question of what Canada can do for them, not the other way around.

Calm down friends, I am reading this post after more than a month-2 months time period.
Here is how it has gone. We applied for OHIP and stated the correct arrival date, coverage starts 3 months from or landing. Got baby delivered in Credit Valley and paid clsoe to CAD 10,000. No pressure on my dear friends tax payers money, so pls calm down and take it easy
Besides, applied for online registration for birth etc. but left the canada child benefits part again not to avail any undue benefits. Rented a house, a car and have bought everythinf with 13% HST duly paid on all invoices.
This is best I could’ve done friends.

Congratulations on your new baby. You would be surprised how many people claim child benefit when their children don't live in Canada, live in huge houses and claim no income, have a baby in Canada without paying or without staying longer than 6 months. There are many people who get citizenship and plan to return only for retirement or have never or almost never lived in Canada but want to be evacuated by Canada if there is a natural disaster, etc. Sure Canada allows them to so it but it seems like it has become a bigger problem as time goes on and in a more global world. Not everyone has good intentions and wants to follow the rules.

I cannot disagree with you on this as I have seen people exploiting the system. Well, I think the government is trying to tighten the screws and the controls need to be stringent enough to manage and eliminate system loopholes.
I have met few who advised me to claim this or that, one way or the other, yet, till i can afford it and I haven’t contributed anything’s ng to Canadian tax system, I feel shame to claim any benefit.

Hello..
My wife is Pregnant and i finished collecting all docs including medicals except my wife X-ray(submitting pregnancy deferral form). I know this will delay the processing..BUT will they not even move forward wityh the background checks and other profession verifications and all other docs submitted until i submit my wife X-Ray after 5 months from now ??
I was under the impression that they move forward with the application, finish everything and wait for X-ray.. or will it not even be touched until wife x-ray after baby birth ?

My AOR is 22 march and am waiting for PPR. fswo India. Today I found out that my wife is pregnant and the expected date of delivery would be in November. Now the question is which provinces cover antenatal and delivery expenses on arrival, apart from Alberta? I was expecting to travel in August (supposing that we get visa in June or July). I read somewhere that Saskatchewan also covers it. Any ideas? I wanted to settle in Ontario but now seems tough, as the delivery could well be before 90 days.
Nova Scotia and Quebec. You actually have to settle in the provinces you can't use the healthcare and move. You will have to stay for at least 6 months or more. Lots of ambiguous terms about intending to settle in the province. Why not have your baby in your home country and then add the baby to the application? As long as you medical expires in the winter that should be fine. Then you can all move to Ontario together.
Yes moving in winter is an option. But I don't think it is safe for baby to undertake a long journey like this till 1 year (I am a doctor!). And that would mean that I undergo whole process again. Also I had planned on starting a bridge course in Ontario in September with York University, hence the haste. Anyways, thanks for your help. Now we have decided to plan according to date of ppr.
Actually I am open to settling anywhere and was just researching that where else apart from Ontario, would it be good to deliver and hence settle.
Based on previous work experience Ontario is probably where you are likely to find a job especially the GTA. Would be difficult in NS, SK and if you don't speak French I'd rule out Quebec. Maybe Alberta but not really. BC is a better option (but ON still would match your skills better) but you will have to wait for healthcare there as well. Are you a single parent? If so you should now that childcare is really expensive.
