Hello Seniors,
I need your advice on a rather tricky situation.
I am currently in Canada on a work permit and have already applied for a PR under the federal skilled worker category (Arranged Employment). My wife is also on an open work permit. I already received a positive eligibility review on my application, but haven't received a medical request yet.
We recently found out that my wife is pregnant. We haven't done medicals yet and have heard that X-rays, which are part of the medicals cannot be done on pregnant women.
What are my options here? Wait till the baby is born - this will postpone our process by a good 8 months or so...

Are there any alternatives? Your feedback would be much appreciated.

Unfortunately there really aren't any alternatives. Your wife has to complete the medical to be approved and she can't complete the medical without an x-ray. She will have to wait until after she gives birth to have the x-ray.

Thanks for your feedback... Guess we are going to have to wait...

I thought X-ray can be done at early stage using a protective shield?

Most doctors recommend against this since it can harm the child.

Hi, yes we checked with our doctor and he suggested that if it is an optional X-ray and can wait, it is better to wait... Since even if it has 1% chance of doing damage, it is not worth it.

hi Vick, we were in same situation, we we got our medical my wife was pregnant. DMP refused to take her x ray. when my wife got into 7th month of pregnancy, our family doctor suggested that its now safe to take x ray with protective sheild and we did so. If your DMP refuses, show them the law. after 20 days of doing X ray. eCAS appeared as medical received but thats it. i sent my newborn son's birth certificate last week. so now i am hoping that they would make decision on my file.

Your family doctor is in the minority. The majority recommend against it. But it's obviously a personal choice.

No, my family doctor only allowed us to have it after 7th month of pregnancy, when the baby is fully developed!!

Thanks for sharing your situation my friend. I have been reading too much about it and talked to 2 different doctors. Hopefully, if our doctor permits we will be able to get the xray done as well. But if it is only allowed in the 7th month, then it is probably worth it to wait till the baby is born. What is an additional 2 months? :)

Good luck on your file. Hope you get your PR soon. Cheers!!

The baby isn't fully developed until months after birth.

What your doctor did was very risky because those protective shields aren't guaranteed to work. Many states in the USA have outlawed them except in the case of extreme emergencies (i. e. car accidents) because of their failures.

Hi, Can someone please let me know if baby is born in Canada does he/she required to undergo Medical test too ?
My wife is pregnant and due this month. We are expecting to receive Medical request next month. In this case, should we inform CIC about my wife pregnant or only after baby is born?
Would this require update to Family Information form.. Could you please let us know if you have information on this.. thank you..

Congratulations buddy... We went through a similar situation. You do need to notify CIC once the baby is born but if you are already in Canada and if the baby is going to be born in Canada, the baby automatically is a born citizen and does not require a medical. You also don't need to add anything to the form as CIC will do it themselves.
