Hi all,
My PR will expire on April 2012 and I'm in WA and will go to Canada forever may be in Feb. 2 months before my cards expire. I have couple of questions here if you could help me with that, I appreciate it. I have my Canadian plate car that I have been using going back and forth from WA to BC for 2 years.

1- I see schools "public and private" in Canada ask for kids immigration status, my kids PR card will also expire April 2012 will they be able to attend schools there? coz it gonna be only 2 months to expire!

2- I'll be living in Canada for 2 years or 3 without leaving, what kind of problems I might expect facing while living there with expired PR cards? I have my medical cards, my SIN# my Canadian driving license my Canadian credit card and bank account? Will I be able to work legally there with expired PR?

Thanks in advance and regards,

Your PR status doesn't expire, just the card. It might happen that somebody asks for your PR card, just show them the expired one or your landing papers. If they ask why you did not renew it, say you did not get around to it yet. You only need one for travel anyway. If they tell you that you need one for staying in Canada too, ask them to show you that law. They can not because there isn't one.

To work, you just need a SIN.

Leon, brother, nobody in this forum can thank you enough for your help and support only GOD who can reward you for that. Are you sure schools will admit my kids with an expired card?

Thanks a lot.

The schools should accept your kids. You can show them the landing papers instead. If they keep asking for PR cards, you can tell them the same thing, that there is no law that says you must have a PR card to live in Canada. It is just for travel.

However, you could also tell them you have already applied to renew and are waiting. If they keep asking you, tell them that you got a residency questionnaire and that local office will take 2 years to give you an interview. It is a plausible story. However, PR status does not expire with the card. The kids are still PR's.
