Hi,
I have got my passport stamped with PR visa. My Passport expiry is on November 2015. I am planning to enter Canada in the month of July, at that time my passport will be having less than 6 months validity. If I renew my passport in India before entering Canada, can it affect the validity of the visa. Kindly reply..

Why not renew it in Canada. Its the same processing time and probably not that expensive.

Thanks for the prompt reply , but the problem is that the travel agents here told me that my passport should have at least 6 months validity to travel to Canada..is it right?

I'm not sure, as long as you have a valid visa and passport, you should be good. Does't matter if there is only 1 day left or a week.

The thing that you need to check is if you can renew your passport in India and have the PR visa on old passport - I'm not sure on that.

But one thing I'm sure on is that if you enter canada and have valid visa and passport, you can always renew the Passport in Canada. Indian Consulate will have their set of documents that they would need for that.

Thanks for the reply...One major doubt is that, is it necessary to have minimum 6 months passport validity to travel from India?

I don't think so, May be some countries enforce that, but not Canada for sure.

Call up CBSA (Canadian Border Services Agency) and ask them. Use some google calling or magicjack to call them and ask.

1. No Canada doesn't have the 6 month rule for passport validity.
