Hi All

I have a question. We received the passport request and will be getting the PR visa stamped soon.

After getting passport with PR stamped, we will need to go to Canada and return within a a day or two due to unavoidable personal reasons. So what is the best option. Should we or can we apply for tourist visa while we have PR stamped in passport - which means we are not using the PR on that short visit?

We will be relocating by end of year and do not want to use PR for this short stay because our understanding is PR will require us to stay there for long time and it will be a disadvantage if we return immediately after landing.

Please suggest.

Thanks,

LD

Hi LD,

I don't think you will get tourist VISA, resson behind is a visa is already on your passport so why you require second VISA.
In addition, why are you worried about entrying on PR? You will be getting Immigratio VISA which will be single entry.

once you land there you've to give address in Canada for delivery of your PR cards. if you've any friends there you can give their address and can come back any time. Once your friend receive the PR cards, they can mail you or somebody can bring to your home town.

BTW, i did the same thing. because your PR is valid for 5 years and you can return anytime.

let me know if you require any further assistance.

Thanks Saf_khan for your quick response. So if take the short trip in PR itself and get the PR card posted to friends and then to me, will it have any impacts like:-

  • Does this impact my future visit during permanent relocation in anyways?
  • Does this affect my PR processes as i have read in some of the links earlier, minimum stay recommended is 45 days, etc ....my stay will be only around 3 days?

Thanks

LD.

Hi Lakshmi,

#it will not impact your permanent relocation (if you will complete all the formalities of landing on this very first visit)
#I would say 3 days is very very small duration, make it at least 1 week, so that you can apply for SIN number at least and open bank account (as you have to deposit the money you will be bringing along to Canada, as you cant take these back and bring it again on 2nd visit, that way it will bring attention of customs/tax dept.)

Apart from this, as you mentioned that you got PP request and you are about to send your PPs, so based on the normal trend you will be getting your PPs with visa in around 2 months time and as you mentioned that you are planning to move permanently at end of year, so I think VO will give you 3 -4 month time (visa validity) to move to Canada.

Also keep one thing in mind that getting PR card via courier may not a good idea as there is a risk of it getting lost in transit, then it will be a problem, but if some one (your friend/relative) will be bringing it to you then it is fine.

I second this, if you've time then land once and stay there till you get the citizenship. if its difficult then go there for atleast 1 week to process your other stuff i.e. SIN, bank account, PR cards, etc. even you can apply for your medical cards, which will be delivered to you within 3 months at your address. you can also apply for your G1 driving licence in 1 week.

on top of it, if you've any friend to carry your PR cards to you by hand that would be great becuase courier service is good but not always.
so think about it.
