Hi all,

I have been reading a lot about the skilled migration in the last few days and am still faced with a very important issue : We only want to move around 2011-2012, so what happens if I apply now and we are granted PR before that time ? Is there like a "window of opportunity" during which we have to land or otherwise our PR expires ? Or can we land at any time after we are granted PR ?

If I use the simplified app. process I think it will be directed to the office in Berlin, they seems to have a shorter processing time than most others, this is why I want to make sure our PR is (still) valid in 2011-2012.

Does anyone here have any info about this issue ?

Hi Hc2002

First of all you have to be aware that once you get the visa you will have only one choice:

You will be asked to do your landing before your medicals date expired (it means one year from the date the medicals were taken)

For instance, let's say that you take your medicals on May 30 2007, and you receive your visa by November 2007, so you will have only 6 months to do your landing CIC will ask you to do your landing before May 30 2008.

CIC is very clear on this date, they include a letter with the visa telling you that there were not any extension of time, if you don't land before the medicals expiring you may loose all, so you must to start over again

Please take this in mind before you game with the times

Good luck
Eduardo

Hi Eduardo I have a question related to the validity date and medicals and it is really very importnat concerning my case , I have done my medical on 15th Nov 2006 and until now the embassy In cairo egypt hasn't contacted me yet and when I asked them 3 months ago they said my file is in process and they will contact me when they are ready to issue my visas , I also called them yesterday and they said that I should only panic if 10 months has passed from my medicals and I have to send an urgent fax to them , I really don't know what to do and I am so worried especially that someone who I know in cairo as well has done the medicals in May 2007 and got his PPR this month as well
I really need your advise

Thanks

Hi Nouna

Unfortunately there is not an specific rule and exact timeline from medical to PPR for everybody, some people receive their PPR very soon, some other receive the PPR very, very late, my case was one of them, I did my medicals last September 2006 and I received the PPR on April 2007, it means it was 7 Months after, so it gave me only 5 months for my landing. Actually I will do my landing by next August.

So be patient… and make sure to send a fax to the embassy right quick in case those 10 months period arrived (I hope you will not require it )

Let’s see what happen

Hi Eduardo,

Thanks for clarifying the subject. This raises the immediate issues like what Nouna here above has encountered : what happens if after your meds. your PR is delayed and even you time-window for landing expires ?

This leads to quite a complex situation for me too : check out the following scenario - I apply for PR and at a certain stage take my meds. at this time I know my PR is coming - but not when (do you know for sure you will not be turned down at this stage ?) so I start looking for work, but when an employer is interested and asks when can I start - I can not give them an answer, this leads to a bit of a dead end finding a job. At the same time, I start making arrangements to leave, sell house, car, notice at work ect.... All that time I can not know when I get my PR and the chance also exists that if my PR comes too late I can no longer use it and have to apply again (which takes years while I have already gotten rid of most of my possessions here).

This seems like a catch-22..... Did I understand it all correctly ? Is there a simpler way ?

Another question - what does the landing involve ? how long do I have to stay in Canada then ? can I go and "land" and then return to Holland to wrap things up ? If I land in Canada and come back to Holland - is there a time limit before I have to return to Canada or a certain number of months/year I have to spend living in Canada ?

Thanks:

1. Yes you can land and leave to wrap up things ih Holland. Ensure you leave a forwarding address in Canada for PR card to be sent.
2. You have to spend 2 years in every 5 years to maintain PR status. They don't have to be consective years.
