Hello there,

I was just curious, and had read that to keep my PR status I have to live here in Canada 2 out of 5 years. But if I were married to a Canadian and I leave the country beyond that time, my PR status remains.

If I am currently dating a Canadian, and I move with him to a different country for work, and later on (during those 5 years), we get married, would the 2 out of 5 years rule still apply to me or would I be exempt?

Thanks.

The Canadian must be living with you. Living apart does not count.
