Dear all,

My daughter hold a British passport and is a PR in Canada. She is currently studying in Vancouver and plans to travel to New York for summer holiday. Does she need to go to the US consulate to apply for a visa or simply she can use her British passport to travel to the US without visa? Is the fact that she is a PR has anything affecting her travel to the US? Someone told me as a PR, she does not need visa to travel to the US.

Many thanks for your kind assistance.

if flying to the US which assume she is given destination is NY as a UK passport holder she will need to apply for an ESTA. Then when travelling she will need to have her PR card handy to reenter Canada along with her UK passport. Here is the official ESTA link https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/

Having a PR card for Canada does not change US entry requirements for a UK passport holder. Also as a PR card holder unlike non PR UK passport holders she will not need to apply for the Canadian ETA. See US rules here https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/1192/~/canadian--citizens%2Fresidents%2Flanded-immigrants-entering-the-u.s.
