Dear all,
Firstly hello and thanks for taking the time to read. Im new to this site and hope someone here has some experience or advice, please share with us. We really appreciate it. This is our situation.

I am a Vietnamese and my boyfriend is Canadian. I've got my TRV last year which is multiple and expires in 2025. Also, I've been in Canada twice (3 months and 4 months). We are planning to get married next year then he will sponsor me. But we are not sure if the outland or inland application is best for us. We were thinking of these 2 options for the inland.

1/ We will do the ceremony only in Vietnam but with no legal marriage (the reason is we are afraid that if we admitted the legal married i would not be allowed in Canada cause there is no longer intent to leave). Then do the marriage paper work in Canada and then apply for the inland?
Also, I am planning to join the same flight with my boyfriend to Canada after our ceremony. Is that possible or it will create some suspicion that we are planning to get married there?

2/ if I am allowed to be married in another country and still enter on a TRV? Also if we do that, can we just need to get the Vietnamese marriage certificate translated then apply for the inland ?

Your advice will be deeply appreciated. Thank you so much.

Christine

My wife's Viet and we've gone through TRV and all, but inland is really a bad idea. Longer processing time, inability to leave Canada for extended periods, and you cannot appeal if you're refused sponsorship.

Also its not true about being married and not allowed into the country, that usually applies to people who are trying to apply for a TRV but since you already got one, you should have little problems provided you're not visiting too often in a short period of time.

Inland does not have a longer processing time. Outland and inland are streamlined to 12m target now.

Thank you everyone .
I'm still wondering that if we do the inland, is it possible for us to legally get married in Vietnam then then bring the paper work to Canada to get them translated?
Or we have to legally marry in Canada?

Hi, yes, unless you're boyfriend lives in the province of Quebec then need no to show proof of income.
Oh thank you
Also I read this somewhere yesterday that the sponsorship application has to be sent by mail? Can we apply it online?

When I sponsored my wife, she had a TRV and we applied Outland. She had no issues coming and waiting in Canada during the process. My biggest reason for choosing Outland was the appeal option, which isn’t available inland. Wanted to keep my options open.

Thank you.
Just one more thing. Do my boyfriend have to prove his income to sponsor me?
While there is no minimum income requirement to sponsor, you guys need to show that you can support yourselves IN Canada without welfare. If his income is low, you will want to show other proofs such as family support, savings, your income etc.

Incorrect. There is no minimum income requirement, even in Quebec, but a couple must show that they can support themselves without welfare.

The reason we don't wanna do outland because if my PR visa gets approved, I have to go back to my country again to get it in the local embassy. That's why I wanna go with the inland so I don't need to travel back and forth.
