Hi Leon,

My spouse has applied for PR card renewal in April 2013 after fulfilling PR obligations (over two years stay in Canada after expiry of PR card date). While her PR renewal was in process, she had to travel due to emergency situation (health condition of family member). She contacted immigration office in Canada to explain the situation and requested urgent processing. They asked her to send the copy of the air ticket and other details be email. She did so on 18th June along with the doctors note. Due to emergency situation (family member admitted in ICCU), she couldn't wait and she had to travel on 19th June 2013. She received email from Immigration office staining that the ticket is expired and requested to submit another valid ticket. As she has already travelled she can not submit another ticket. She has a return ticket to travel back to Canada by end August. Under this circumstances, could you please advise the following.

1. Since she can not provide another ticket, will the Immigration office stop processing her PR renewal normally if not urgently.
2. Can she receive the PR by post after normal processing (in Canadian address)which she can get though friend and use it for her return travel to Canada?
3. If above doesn't happen, will she need to request for travel document. What is the likely hood of approval.

Thank you,

Susa

If she want to return to Canada as scheduled next month, I think her best bet is to return to Canada via the US at a land border using the expired PR card if she has a US visa.

She won't be able to sponsor you for immigration unless she return to live in Canada.

Thank you but she doesn't have US visa.

What is the way out then?

Many thanks,

Thanks.

What is the likelihood that CIC will process the PR renewal application already submitted in April 2013.

Hard to say. Some people received their cards in the mail within several months and others have not received their cards despite waiting for a year or so.

Do they stop processing PR renewal application normally, whenever the urgent processing is requested?

Thanks,

Sorry I do not know if one can request to expedite PR card renewal while being abroad. BTW, why can't she apply for a US visa? Besides, it could take 4-8 weeks to get TD.

Hello,

Finally, my spouse received the travel document and she travelled back to Canada. She had to travel in emergency while the PR application was in process. However, the PR renewal application made in early April 2013 is still in process as shown online. Could someone advise what is to be done to know the exact status. Do they cancel / shelve applications when the residents travel outside Canada? Is it required to inform CIC that she is returned back to Canada.

Please advise how to expedite the processing of PR app now.

Thanks,

Susa
