Hi Leon,
I'm looking for advice whether or not and when to renew my PR card.
Landed May 2007...Then I have been in and out from Canada in between 2007-2012
Just got back to Canada in May-2012 and havent left since then.
Now my PR has expired . Between 2007-2012 , 5 yr period, I'm only in canada for 700 days.
However, from today Aug 2013-Aug 2008, for this past five year I have 738 days in Canada.
Is it safe for me to apply to renew my PR now?
Because between 2009-2010 I havent been in Canada and I have been to multiple countries in this past 5 yrs period.
Should I wait untill i have 2 full year straight to renew?
I need to sponsor my wife too, would they review my PR status if I start sponsorship application for my wife now?

Thanks very much for your times.

You don't need 730 continuous days to qualify to renew your PR card. You just need 730 residency days in the five years right before you apply. So if you have 730 days, go ahead. They don't have to be continuous.

They will not look at 2007. They only look at the past 5 years. If you meet the requirements in the past 5 years, you can apply to renew your PR card and you can apply to sponsor your wife.

725 days in Canada for the last 5 years can sponsor a wife?

Hi All,
Could anyone please advide me if I can sponsor my wife if I only stay in Canada for 725 days in Canada for the past 5 years which is missing 5 more days according to the 730 days rules. The reason I am asking is that in order to have enough 730 days I have to wait until November but by that time we will move to another state so we had to redo most of our paper works again and it will take a lot of our time.

Will they check my residency obigation when I sponsor my wife since I only have 725 days in Canada for the past 5 years?

Please help us, thank you very much folks!!

They will go through your address history as they go through your sponsorship application and if they notice that you are missing 5 days, they can delay your application and call you in for an interview to make you explain that. It's only 3 months until November. I think you should wait.

I'm calculating my dates in Canada, just want to make sure I'm in here 730 days. I'm not 100% sure about those days. I'm thinking to order a report for travel history from CBSA, Do you think doing this would trigger CBSA to report me for PR residency obligations if They find out i dont have enough 730...say 725 days...?

Other questions, In 2000-2010, I'm only in Canada for couple weeks. How do you proof for those days? since I didnt have anything...no phone bills...utilities...i was staying with friends...?

CBSA will not report you. Go ahead and order your travel records. If you have gone to or passed through the US on some of your trips, you can order from there here: https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/976/~/record-of-my-travel-in-and-out-of-the-united-states,-foia

Any part of a day spent in Canada counts as a full day in Canada.
