I believe you'll have to start the process all over again and unfortunately begin from scratch. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

You can't renew your PR card until you are back in compliance with the Residency Obligations. Your PR status remains unaffected, for now.
There are many, many threads on the forum that cover your scenario, mostly in this section -> https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/forums/permanent-residency-obligations.11/

Your PR Card has expired...not your PR status.
You need to move back to Canada....stay there for the required time (meet the RO) and the apply for a renewal of ypur PR card. You wont need your PR card while living inside Canada.
Now as to how you can enter Canada..
1. You cam try your luck with your PR card. You may or may not be allowed to board if the airline notices your expired card. You may or may not be reported for not meetimg RO when you land in Canada. A bit risky this.
2. Land in USA. Drive to the nearest border with Canada and enter with your copr or expired pr card. You will sail through. And chances of being reported are very slim. After this you can continue living as a legal resident...because you are one. You can work too. Im assuming you have yohr SIN already. Do not leave until you meet RO and have applied for PR Card again.
3. You can apply for a PRTD but if that is a refused...which it very likely will be, unless you have humanatarian grounds...You will be reported and process to revoke PR will start.
4. Write to Canadian high commission and renounce your PR formaly. Once that is done...you may apply to become a resident from scratch.
