PR received today - COPR sheet "valid to" date?

Sorry if the heading was confusing- I wasn't quite sure how to explain. My husband received his COPR sheet today after his landing interview and everything looks good, we're just confused about the "valid to: ..." date under Application Details. What does that date mean? I thought PR cards were good for a few years....??

The letter that comes with COPR should have 2 options to validate the COPR;

1. Make an appointment at an IRCC office near where you live in Canada to be admitted to Canada as a permanent resident.
2. Leave Canada and return through a Canadian “port of entry” (an international airport or a Canadian land border) to get your permanent resident status.

Either option you choose, you will need to present:

• your COPR and/or your permanent resident visa,
• your passport

Your COPR is not valid until It gets signed by an officer while landing to admit you as a landed permanent resident in Canada.

After landing your permanent resident card will be mailed to the address you provided.

The COPR has the same information for outland and inland. So they all have an "expiry day"
He is landed and his should get his PR card in the mail in a few weeks. He can get his permanent SIN number and start to find a job or update his employer his new SIN (if he was working with his OWP).
Keep the COPR in a safe place and it's an very important document.

It is not clear from what you are saying what the situation is.

I appreciate he is in Canada, the same would be true for any inland applicant (or indeed outland who has entered under 'dual intent').

Has he just received his CoPR - yes or no?

If Yes, has he (as Wakki said) either 'landed to declare PR' and 'activated' the CoPR either by leaving the country and returning or via an appointment at a local CIC office?

If no - then he has not 'landed' for the purposes of PR and must do so before the expiry date on the CoPR, it is only then that they will apply for his PR Card.

Your husband choose the 1st option to land at the immigration office, has become a PR and should expect the PR card mailed.......congrats and welcome to Canada.

We got his SIN number right afterwards but I guess I hadn't been paying close attention to that valid date during the interview (should have noticed and asked about it). Thank you for the answer!

They only have to do 1 of the 2. Either a landing interview or flagpoling (going to the border). But flagpoling is only available to outland applicants who get their unstamped COPR via mail.

Yes that's what happened with us- sorry for the confusion! We got the COPR, just wasn't sure if we needed to go to the border for anything or not.

Visa is only to land to get the PR it is not needed after that thats why it is only valid until medicals expires. Once a person gets PR the visa gets annuled in the passport.
