Hi everyone I was wondering if anyone was going through the same thing as me and could help answer some questions.

I did an application for permanent resident under the common law class, I received the AOR last week, and would like to know if that is the first stage approval? Because I didn't do the application for the OWP with the PR application and now I want to apply online but they only let us apply online if we have that approval. Thanks so much.

AOR is just acknowledge of receiving your application. It's not any stage of approval.

Are you out of status? If not, I have never of this requirement. If the online application form doesn't let you send it in. Then try using the paper version of the form.

If you are out of status, then you can't apply for OWP until AIP which is very close to the final stage of the application approval.

Thank you so much for your reply. I have a status of visitor now and I'm trying to do the online application for the OWP and before they let me apply I need to answer a questionaire and I need to say yes to the question of first stage of approval to be able to apply for the OWP. I know that the questionaire is not my application, but II jus don't know if it's worth it to apply or not if I don't have that first stage approval. I'm not sure if someone else has been in this situation that would be able to assist me with this. Thanks again.

Try searching for inland sponsorship OWP. I think there are a lot of discussion about this. We didn't go through this step back then.

I have been searching a lot in here and other forums but most of the people just put the PR and owp together and don't have to worry about this, I was trying to apply online because I thought that will be quicker and easier but now I'm just confused. I tried to call the call center but it's just pointless because they are too busy and I cannot get through to an agent.

Check out this one. This is a much older discussion and the OP may be out of status... So they are trying to send the OWP after AIP. But since you still have a valid status, you can apply for OWP along side your inland application.

I think you can send in the hard copy application with letter explaining and referring to information to your AOR. Application number...etc. I think they should be able to link them together.

You may need to read through the inland discussions to see if someone has similar situation.

You can't apply online until after Approval in Principle, which generally comes near the end of the process. You must send a paper app.

Expect 4 months. Some people get it a bit sooner.

I feel kinda of silly because when I did the PR application the person that help me said to not put everything together and wait for the AOR to apply for OWP online, she said that will be quicker and easier, now I feel that I just waste precious time.. but thanks for your help.

Unfortunately, that person was wrong. Perhaps let them know and tell them to buy you a beer or 10.

That person is wrong. You may want to let her know that the best way is to send in the OWP and inland sponsorship at the same time.
The "short cut" she told you doesn't exist.

Yes, thank you all for the help and taking your time to respond to my questions. I'm currently filling out the imm5710 to send by mail, and they don't really ask anything about the PR application, or maybe the application fits on the question "have you previously applied to enter or remain in Canada? " Maybe I should answer yes and specify my PR application? Do you guys know ? Thanks

I'm not sure if this helps, but I was digging around for my own OWP questions and came across the link below from UBC. A lot of the info doesn't really apply to me since I'm not a student, but it still clarified a little bit. In your case, it might help with your question about identifying your PR application???

IMM5710 is a generic form. You need to include a letter explaining that you have applied for inland sponsorship.
