Hello, I am a Canadian PR for almost a decade, unfortunately leaving Canada as early as the first or second week of December back to my home country (Philippines) due family reasons and am not sure if or when I will be back.
I received advice to let the CRA know. Is it better for me to go online and make the change or for me to call CRA and let them know that I will be changing to nonresident status?
Again, I plan on leaving in December, but may leave after the first of the year depending on airfare. If I were to leave in December, and have changed my address making me a nonresident, How would I do this with taxes for 2018? Would I still file since I spent most of the year in Canada? Please note I did not make any taxable income this year in Canada. I did collect CCB however.
Lastly, is there any proof of residence/citizenship in the Philippines I should be giving to CRA? It’s the country where I am a citizen and came to Canada from originally so I just wanted to be sure to do things right.
Any words would help. Thank you so much
