Wanted to share my experience going to the border today to land as a permanent resident. Since you can only do Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in Ontario I figured today would be a good day to hire a car and take the day off work.

Arrived at Rainbow Bridge (Niagara Falls) at around 11am, drove across the bridge, got the piece of paper from the US border security and was back on the Canadian side in around 5 minutes. All to be told that they’re too busy today and that they wouldn’t be able to process me – WTF!

The man was nice, but suggested I drove to Sarnia (3 hours away!). I asked about Lewistown and was told I could try my luck, but he didn’t like my chances.

Drove to Lewistown, got to the man at the gate who asked why I wasn’t doing my landing inland, how this is for people who are actually trying to get into Canada, not people who are already in. Said they weren’t doing anymore landings today but I could go inside and ‘try my luck’.

Parked and went inside, the first man was incredibly rude, but luckily the lady who seemed to be running things said I could give her my documents, to come back in a couple of hours and see what we could do. I waited around for a couple of hours and around that time I was called up to get my documents signed.

Pretty stressful overall. I can’t believe that they’re turning people away and refusing to do landings at some times. Maybe it would be best to go at a weird time during the evening.
