Hi,

My wife who is from the Philippines got approved to come to Canada. I sponsored her and they, today, asked for passport for the visa :) It feels good after all this wait time. I had questions about what will happen next...

Once she gets here, how long before she receives her PR card?
I like going to Dominican Republic and Mexico in the winter time, will she be able to travel with me? What will she need to able to come?

Thanks in advance and wish you all good luck on your applications

According to the CIC website, 41 days:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/English/information/times/index.asp

She should have her PR card by the time you want to travel, and her PR status in Canada means she does not have to apply for Mexico and DR visas in advance.

Congratulations and enjoy!

Just to add to bellaluna's post, it's 41 days minimum. CIC could request new photos (as they did with me and quite a few others on this forum).

In order to fly back to Canada she will need either:
- PR card, or
- PR Travel Document

Don't book travel before she has PR card in hand. People often wait many months to receive PR card after landing due to various delays.

If traveling without a PR card, make sure there is sufficient time to obtain a PR Travel Document where you're going. This could take several weeks, during which time you need to mail your passport to the local visa office.

@ Andynd1uk: Good point.

OP, call ASAP if you don't receive her card within 41 days. Mine was also delayed, but it was sent 2 weeks after I made the call.

If you were referring to entering Mexico and the Dominican Republic, yes.

From the Mexican Embassy website: https://embamex2.sre.gob.mx/canada/index.php/en/consular-services/visas-and-services-for-foreigners

The Embassy of Mexico in Canada informs the public that Canadian nationals and permanent residents of Canada still do not require a visa to enter Mexico.....

Permanent residents of Canada must present their Permanent Resident Card and one of the following documents: valid Passport or Refugee Travel Document.
From the DR consulate website: http://dominicanconsulate.ca/faqs/

Q. Do I require a visa to travel to the Dominican Republic?

A. Anyone who has a status (permanently or multiple entry visa) for Canada, the U.S.A. or the European Union can travel to the Dominican Republic for tourism purposes without a visa.
