Hi,
My PR will expire on March-2022. To maintain the PR validity I have to enter Canada before Mar-2020.
But due to my family reasons, it will be difficult for me to enter before Mar-2020. I have the plan to move on Jun/Jul-2020.
In that case, how can I apply for PR extension as I am not maintaining the PR obligation periods(2 yrs out of 5yrs)?

thanks

What are the family reasons that are preventing you from meeting the residency obligation?

If, when you arrive in Canada, the border officer accepts your reasoning why you have not met your residency obligation, you may be let into Canada without any issue. You will then need to stay in Canada for two years - plus a little in case they count differently - no vacations, nothing outside Canada for two years. Then you can apply to renew your PR as you will have met the residency obligation.

If the border officer does not accept your reasons for breaching the residency obligation, you will still be let into Canada but the process of revoking your PR will begin. You can appeal that, but you need to have very strong reasons why you did not meet your residency obligation. That is where you may wish to hire a lawyer.

Hi,thanks for your kind information. Will the border officer ask any questions if I enter keeping 2yrs in my hand? Suppose Jan-2020.In that case, I will have 2yrs 2 mnths in hand.

What do you mean by "in hand"?

You may or may not be questioned. If you haven't breached your RO when you enter, then you're less likely to get questions.
