Hi,

I am very confused and indecisive about what should I do, would really appreciate if someone can please guide me.

I graduated in Jan 2012 from a 1 year Post Graduate certificate program at Sheridan College, did a coop work term and now have a post graduate work permit till March 22, 2013. I have another 8.5 month left now, I spent the time to search for a job in Ontario (my mistake). What should I do now to get my PR - I have heard about two options: Manitoba PNP and Nova Scotia PNP.

What should I do.

Regards,
Amith

Your first target should to find a job in any province. Then after it become easier to get LMO and extend you work permit while you are in process of any nomination program under your stream.

What kind of a job do you suggest?

It depends on what kind of education you have. The thing is that 8.5 months is not enough to land you your nomination in any province what so ever and you cannot get a PGWP ever again. So, try your level best to find a job in NOC category 0, A or B. If you can't then make sure that you get a job in which the employer is willing to promote you. The point is that you need to discuss this with your employer clearly. I have heard that Nova Scotia does not give out nominations easily unless they are very sure that you will remain in the province. In Manitoba, they don't allow people who have studied in other province for international graduate category but you can try in other classes that they have.

All being said, your foremost concern should be to land a job which can get you to NOC 0, A or B in next 3-4 months. Once you have that, your employer can apply to HRSDC for an LMO and the good thing is that they won't have to proce to the HRSDC that they advertized for the job or they tried hiring a Canadian for the job. I think if you can do that in Ontario, there is no need at all to move to any other province because you will definately be able to get the nomination from Ontario PNP.

Good luck and hope it works out for you.

I have been trying in Ontario for the last 7 months, since Dec end but havn't been able to land up anything and am not sure if I would be able to land up anything here in the future.

Regarding Manitoba, they have an employer direct stream but based on what I have found out - I will most probably be rejected for that because I have close ties to Ontario (I have my brother and relatives here).

I am thinking about Saskachewan PNP. I know I would need to work for min 1 year and then apply for it and I just now have about 8 months left (till March 22, 2013) and again would need an LMO to get my permit extended. I am in a really hot soup now. I have heard from some that some have fakely showed their payroll in Saskachewan to show that they were working there before the rules changed. Is that something you recommend and is that feasible?

Any suggestions please?

Here is what I think about the payroll thing: I was to start my job with Titam alarms as security systems installer in Regina on 3rd may and the contract was signed in February 2012. I was going to drive to Regina from Vancouver on 1st may and i discover 1:30 am in the morning that the rules have changed. I did not go for nay such illegal choice and the only reason is that you screw up one time and there is NO chance you are getting the PR ever. I won't suggest that you go for any such thing. If that is the case, come to Saskatoon as soon as possible. And here is what I suggest. Don't ask for too many suggestions from Abc and Xyz around you. You are the one in the situation and you gotta make the decision fast. If you are really sure that there is no chance in Ontario. I am pretty much sure you will be easily able to find a employer in Saskatoon or any other city in Saskatchewan who can get you to a NOC 0 A or B position in 4-6 months and that should be good enough. Just because HRSDC say that you should apply for LMO 4 months prior to expiry of the permit does not mean that you actually have to do that. If you are able to file the application even 2 months or even less before the expiry of your permit, It should be good enough. In fact considering the situation you are in, delay the application as much as possible. Before making any move, you might wanna call edge immigration in Saskatoon, they are ones I consulted last week. The guy is really nice and trust worthy.

And worst come to worse, there are people in Saskatchewan who can get you the open work permit for 8-10 thousand dollars. So don't worry, all you have to do is stay updated, don't be sluggish as you were that is why you didn't come here in december, lol..:) (no hard feelings).. and keep researching. Most probably you will be able to get the LMO through that policy and if not, get the open work permit. And you can always work under the implied status i.e. when you have applied for a work permit to CIC, you are legally allowed to work..

Good luck!!

P.S. I am in almost the same situation. I started working on may 22nd because I quit the job at titan alarms and then realized that i have made a mistake. Anyway, if I apply for my post grad i will get it till 10th of august, 2013. However, I will be eligible to apply for nomination in June's first week, 2 months are not enough for the nomination, so I am looking at that LMO thing too and my employer (Tim Hortons) seem to agreeing with me as they want to retain me too.
