The PR card is required to re-enter Canada by commercial carrier (airplane, boat, train or bus) only. This requirement does not apply if you are travelling by private vehicle.

Is above statement still true?

I live in US and landing in Calgary for couple of days and come back. I'll start working in Canada at a later date and thinking about re-entering in my own car (I am pakistani Citizen, at the time of re-entry will use landing entry documents to proof i am perm resident).

hi, yes you do not need PR card if you are entring by road.
I saw similar question by you in an another thread and qorax have answered it.
