PR Card Validity Question

All,

I landed in Canada on May-28,2012 nd my PR card says it is valid until sometime in Oct,2017. Should it not be valid until may,2017 ?

Does the 5 years count start from the day we land or when the PR cards are processed ?

Please advice !

Your PR card is valid till Oct 2017. i.e. It expires on Oct 2017. So, you do not have to worry till Oct 2017. In Oct 2017, just reapply for a renewal of the PR card.

"valid until sometime in Oct,2017" means "valid till sometime in Oct,2017"

The 5 years starts the day you land as a PR but it rolls. When you apply to renew, they will look at the 5 years immediately prior to the date you apply to renew. If you renew in Oct 2017, they will look back to Oct 2012; if you renew in April 2018, they will look back to April 2013.

I think the date they issue the PR card, they count expiry of 5 years from then. I landed in July 2011 and it is valid till sep 2016 as it was issued in sep.
